VILNIUS OLD CITY HALL WILL HOLD FROM 4 JULY THE SECOND CreArt EUROPEAN EXHIBITION TITLED “WHITE NOISE, BLACK WORDS” WITH THE PARTICIPATION OF 19 PROJECTS SELECTED FROM THE CreArt CITIES

2014-06-12

Next Friday 4 July the second CreArt European Exhibition 2014, titled “White Noise, Black Words” and curated by Joao Laia + Rosa Lleo with Miguel Amado opens in the Vilnius Old City Hall. The 19 projects presented, were selected among 88 proposals submitted from the different CreArt cities at the end of last year. With occasion of the opening, some artists will be present in Vilnius. The exhibition will be open until 17 August to travel then to Zagreb (Croatia) and Harghita (Romania).

“WHITE NOISE, BLACK WORDS”

CreArt European Exhibition 2014

According the curators, White Noise, Black Words investigates the fragile balance between abstraction and figuration, immateriality and concreteness, fact and symbol, existence and imagination. Whereas “white noise” is commonly known as a combination of all the sounds in the human spectrum, “black words” suggests less-visible elements of the social fabric.

The featured works are in an array of media: painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, installation, video, and sound. They offer up realistic depictions and dreamlike representations, rational positions and unconscious tensions, perceptible objects and ghostlike entities, primitive rituals and daily actions, conversational dynamics and intimate gestures.

This is the second exhibition of CreArt, a cultural project involving institutions from various European cities. It showcases diverse art practices from distinct European geographies. Each partner in the CreArt network issued an open call for local artists, and the curators then selected from among the respondents the 19 artists whose work is presented here:
