performances, 12 concerts, 6 exhibitions, 7 lectures, 6 film screenings, a conference
and several workshops. These events mobilised 38 volunteers —who worked a total
of 1450 hours— and were attended by nearly 4.700 people.
The festival was successful in fulfilling its three main objectives, in particular in raising
the interest of the general and professional public on the future of the monument,
The initiative also led to the “Mills to City” civic initiative, a platform for setting up an
interdisciplinary working group of experts (cultural sphere, art managers,
representatives of local civic associations, city council officers) to prepare a project
on the future use of the Automatic Mills for its conversion into a social and
community centre (Kulturfabrik).
Success/ failure factors:
Success has been illustrated by the involvement of
stakeholders, strong public identification with the place (sense of belonging), large
volunteer base and the involvement and support (including financial) of the
Municipality.
