Meeting "CreArt. a new way to develop culture in medium-sized cities". Valladolid, 10 April

CreArt organized last Friday, April 10, the European meeting "CreArt. A new way to develop culture in medium-sized cities" in the Valladolid City Council.
After the selection of our project in 2012 by the EACEA of the European Commission, the CreArt cities have developed an intense program for the promotion of artistic creation. These activities include the set-up of a professional system for the mobility of artists and their artworks among the different CreArt cities; the organization of artist in residence programs; workshops leaded by renowned visual artists; seminars and conferences with the participation of European experts and University professors; travelling European exhibitions; and a research study about the contribution of artistic creation to local development. In total, 154 artists from the CreArt Network have directly participated since we started our program of activities.

The conference opened at 9 am in the Assembly Hall of the City of Valladolid, where the Mayor, Francisco Javier León de la Riva and the Councillor for Culture, Commerce and Tourism, Mercedes Cantalapiedra received the 20 political and technical representatives of the partner cities participating in the project. The meeting was structured around debates on 4 key points in the development of CreArt project: A new space for creation in Europe, The experience the circulation of artworks and the mobility of artists within the network, The use of common artistic services in European cities, and the necessary cultural coordination of medium-sized cities for the promotion of creativity. In these debates participated political representatives of CreArt cities as the Mayor of Lecce (Italy), Paolo Perrone, the Deputy mayor of Pardubice (Czech Republic), Jakub Rychtecky, the Councillor of Culture and Tourism of Aveiro, Filipe Miguel Capão, the Councillor for Culture of Kaunas (Lithuania), Aušrys Krisciunas, or Harghita County Manager (Romania), Barna Szabó.This conference had also be attended by representatives of embassies of some of the project countries and artists who have been selected in the CreArt calls .

Afterwards the different coordinators in each partner city made a short presentation of the impact of the activities carried out so far in their city. The first results of the research study "The contribution to local development of artistic creativity " by the agency " Kea European affairs were presented too.

At the closure of the meeting the European CreArt Manifesto CreArt was read by our City Councillor for Culture.

After the project ends our intention is to continue the good practices  and to sustain all the initiatives and  project elaboration connected to the CreArt project topics."

The CreArt accomplishes the creativity and innovation challenges strategically assumed by Aveiro. Promotes the great European goal of diversity and intercultural dialogue. And it completes all of us, from the Mayor or City Counselor, to the municipal technicians or the emergent talent, increasing the sense of life.

Last week’s CreArt meeting confirmed precisely that European cultural diversity and artistic creativity and simultaneously provided the strengthening of bonds among partners. It has been a special event enhanced by the great hospitality of Valladolid
