CreArt AND id11 DELFT HOLD THE SEMINAR “Shifting Artist-in-Residence Strategies”, WITH THE PARTICIPATION OF EUROPEAN EXPERTS, ARTISTS AND MEMBERS OF THE CreArt NETWORK.

2013-12-09

On Saturday December 14th, 2013, the seminar “Shifting Artist-in-Residence Strategies” will be held in Delft within the context of the CreArt Project and with the collaboration of a number of partners*.

Artist-in-residences (AiRs) are a changing phenomenon. Hosts and guests develop new strategies or they reinvent the ways they operate. This process is necessary because of shifting economic, political and cultural circumstances. Some AiRs opt for interdisciplinary research, others for integrating artistic goals with commercial activities. Some focus on the specificity of their location, while others try to connect to the needs of other parties. Which new artist-in-residence strategies are developed? What are the consequences for collaboration, programming, funding? How can networks, cultural organizations, funds, and governments connect to these developments?

The seminar “Shifting Artist-in-Residence Strategies” looks into these questions. It brings artist-in-residence programs from The Netherlands, Europe and Russia together to share the latest insights in artist-in-residence strategies. Experts will share their visions with us, amongst them: Jan Willem Schrofer, former director of the Rijksakademie Amsterdam; Georgi Nikich, director of the Moscow Union of Exhibitions Halls; Leontine Meijer van Mensch, lecturer of heritage theory and professional ethics at the Reinwardt Academy, Amsterdam.

The seminar program encompasses a mix of presentations sketching the latest developments in the AiR field, panel discussions with experts, artists and critics, as well as working groups where the participants can actively take part in the discussions on a chosen topic. Time will be given to answer the questions of the public and favor discussion. Floor van Spaendonck, manager at HET NIEUWE INSTITUUT will be moderator for the day.

You are welcome to join the seminar and meet representatives of the CreArt network and of emerging Russian artist-in-residence programs.
