2017-05-03

The European Commission has again selected the CreArt Network of European Cities for Artistic Creation, led by Ayuntamiento de Valladolid, which will receive and manage the European Grant to continue its program of activities over the next 4 years. CreArt is one of 15 projects selected, among 111 proposals under the Creative Europe Open Call for large scale cooperation projects.

From the European Commission, they have rated positively the quality of the new partnership, made up of 12 medium-sized cities from 9 countries distributed throughout Europe (Valladolid - ES, Genoa and Lecce - IT; Liverpool - UK; Clermont - Ferrand and Rouen FR; Zagreb - HR; Kaunas -LT; Lublin and Katowice -PL; Aveiro - PT; Skopje - MK) with extensive experience in coordinating cultural programs in the field of contemporary art; Its program of training, exchange and promotion activities covering a wide range of visual arts and focused on developing 3 of the European Commission's priorities (transnational mobility, capacity building through training and education and audience development ); or the continuation of a complete Communication plan both off-line and on-line which has been very effective in the dissemination of the CreArt activities and the Creative Europe program at local, national and international level.

The new CreArt project will be developed between 2017 and 2021 and has a total budget of 3.096.148 € (The European Commission will provide a Grant of 1.548.074 €). The project will start in the following months, as a continuation of the current project, that ended in April, and in which after 5 years of work, more than 200 artists have benefited from the exchange opportunities; we have organized 20 AiR programs in 4 European cities; 3 workshops led by renowned artists and curators; circa 10 seminars, conferencesand encounters, organized with the collaboration of experts and professors from European Universities; 4 travelling exhibitions, stopping in 3 different cities every year from the North to the South of Europe, with the participation of 80 artists and 4 highly regarded curators. Also from within our Network –and

inviting other cities to join in- we have introduced the annual celebration of the “European Day of Artistic Creativity” (21st March). Furthermore, and we have coordinated, together with the Kea European Affairs Agency, the study titled: “Contribution of Artistic Creation to local development”.

These 5 years of CreArt have contributed to improve the social innovation, economic growth, image and internationalization of our cities: the participant cities in the project highlight the positive impact on the local management thanks to the experience gained during these years; the enrichment of the local cultural offer through the CreArt activities and the artistic projects launched on the occasion of the European Day of Artistic Creativity; and the positive impact In the artistic community.

In CreArt we are convinced that training and the organization of exchanges are essential to all sectors involved in the cultural activities of our cities (artists, curators, managers, technicians, politicians, the press, ...). For this new project we are committed to increase the number and variety of activities and the opportunities for cultural stakeholders in general. We would like to develop a programme designed to help a sector that has been especially affected by the current economic crisis. We will do this by promoting smart and sustainable growth in the public administrations. An inclusive, coherent and more creative programme.
